HOW DOES THIS WORK?

You don’t need to become an APA master in order to cite correctly, you simply need to become familiar with this style of citing.

There is a general pattern (format) for citing different types of sources. Depending on the additional information that you need to include, there are particular places where the information needs to be inserted.

Take a quick look at the slides below:

CITING UPDATE

After reviewing some of these specific points, you should have noticed the following:

  • There is always a way to cite.
  • There is a basic pattern to citing articles whether these are from periodicals (magazines and newspapers) or from databases.
  • The title of the article is always listed before the name of the periodical. Think smaller parts before the whole.
  • Volume number, issue number and page numbers are always listed after the name of the periodical; all of these are separated by a comma.
  • Retrieval information comes at the very end, and there is no need to follow with a period.
